People Buy Apple Videos like hot cakes

Apple has sold over 1 million videos through iTunes since the release of the Video iPod service. Personally I am surprised by this success, it raises many questions. Will this encourage more people to put their video content on the iTunes store? Is there a vast market for cheaper stuff at reduced prices? Why am I willing to pay more for music than I would for video?

tv shows have enormous potential for legal downloads as long as the quality is good.

music videos too.

now we just need a delivery system for full movies to go mainstream thats legal.

You kidding? This was a fantastic idea, just took someone with the guts and the money to make it happen.

The quality issue is something that is a sore point now. QVGA isn't even up to regular OTA quality. Not to mention, if they increase the quality of downloadable shows where does that leave DVD sales?

Then again season 1 (24 episodes) of lost on DVD is $37, downloading them all on iTunes will cost you $48. (probably less if they have a package deal).

video + podcasting = infinite content, infinite possibilities. Now any Joe Schmo can have his very own TV channel and the infrastructure to distribute it to a mass audience via iTunes.

many people have had this vision for a long time, now with broadband being over 50% of users in europe and the US the audience is there.

Someone just has to step up and deliver it.

I would pay dearly for my own custom tailored tv channel 🙂

a lot of people would, I want mine without commercials

i question the sustainability. many probably bought to try out on their brand new ipods. unless they give you a huge discount on the dvd set after you buy a years worth, buying shows will just not be worth it for most.

Not the same comparision.
You can't episodes of Lost, Housewives until long after a season is over.
$1.99 is relatively cheap if you missed an episode or you need to watch it again.
This is of course if you forgot to tape it which many of us have done.
I know many times, I've look foward to seeing a show but for one reason or another I missed it....I think I would gladly pay $1.99 to be able to watch it the next day.
