So, first off the setup.
I live in an apartment complex that has a swimming pool. It just so happens that my apartment is the closest apartment to the swimming pool. Each apartment in the complex has a key to the pool.
Well, people would constantly ask us for the pool key. At first, I didn't mind so much, however, people started just taking the key without asking. This is where we have issue. People got to the point where they really were not asking if they could borrow something that wasn't theirs, they were taking it.
Now, mind you, if we lose a key each member of the apartment has to pay $100 to replace the lock and get keys for each apartment in the complex.
Now that you have the setup, here is what happened.
A guy knocks on the door, looks for the key where it used to be and even goes so far as to touch the hook that it was formerly hanging on. He say's "Hey, could I borrow your pool key?" My response was this, (and no, I didn't have any sort of sarcastic or degrading tone) "I'm sorry, we aren't giving out our pool key anymore. We've had too many people asking for it very frequently. Some have even taken it without asking. I'm sure you can understand how annoying this would be"
Well, the guy went crazy. I mean, he seriously started throwing a tantrum because he didn't get what he wanted. He slammed to door very loudly, marched away to get a key from someone else (the next apartment down) and opened the pool door to, I guess, grab something out of it, and then slammed the pool door.
He then proceeded to open our door and chuck a newspaper at me screaming"You FoRGoT YoUr MAIL!"
Am I insane? I mean seriously, all that I did was tell this guy no as politely as possible. Do people always go ape shit insane whenever they get told no?
