idoltry!

Exactly. The entire Catholic religion is full of idol worship which is clearly forbidden in the Christian Bible.... the same book the Catholic religion claims to follow.

:thumbsup: Examples: the pope, eucharist, virgin mary, others.

Agreed!

:beer:

to the six dummies I'm quoting here: catholics don't "worship" the pope, eucharist, virgin mary, or "others"

Riiiiiiiight.

Praying to Mary is worshiping. Mary was just another human.

if it helps ppl feel closer to God and raises people's spirits, it is not hurting a thing. relax.

They're chasing a mirage, and that's dangerous.

Sort of like Bush and the war. How do you like them apples?!

Wow - we've got some real winners in here.

I can't believe that people still insist that Catholics worship Mary, when it's clearly obvious to anyone that reads on the subject that they don't. All of this Catholic "idol worship" that's being harped on is nothing of the sort. But hey - whatever makes you guys feel like big boys.

All I know is that I don't see Catholics running around bad-mouthing the other Christian denominations...

"Worship" would imply that the person thinks Mary is a goddess. Catholics don't think that. You're wrong.

pray != worship

I suggest you take another read through the Bible. Praying to anything other than God is considered Idol worship. It's in there and you'll see it if you read it.

Exactly. Catholics talk to Mary in their head and that somehow means they "worship" her? Bullshit. I go every month to my brother's grave and I talk to him in my head. Does that mean I worship my brother? Hell no. I do it because it's comforting - the same reason that Catholics talk to Mary.

I'm hugely non-religious and even this is common sense to my small brain.

Here's the "Hail Mary" that the Catholic-haters like to target. Show me where it worships Mary:

Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee;
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.

Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now
and at the hour of our death.

Amen.

Because I sure don't see it.

Catholics ask Mary for her intercession to pray for them to the Lord Jesus. If you ask a family member to pray for you are you worshiping them? I think not.

I hope if the the new Pope is going to crack down on things, this type of occurence is one of the first things he gets medieval on.

..there's a concrete traffic barrier,in GG Park in SF.. that some say is worthy of worship. They had to move the thing cause traffic was backing up trying to get a glimpse of it...ya never know these days. 😕

Reality check: They're worshipping a stain on concrete.

Besides, the fact that they're so willing to throw away common sense scares me. What if you have a bunch of holy rollers that want to steer this country down the wrong path because they aren't thinking? They're chasing a mirage, and that's dangerous.

opinions are like a$$holes everyone 's got one...most of the time they stink

what does it matter to you what others do, as long as they are not hurting anyone else, or are not costing you money? If it makes them feel better in some small way you should be happy that they found some sort of fullfillness in thier lives...much like you have for putting them down.
