People are home, why doesn't UPS knock on the door?

Today was a pretty miserable day. The temp isn't all that bad, but the humidity is a killer. And my A/C is on the fritz. Repair guy will be out tomorrow. I'm late for work because I couldn't sleep in a house where the air is heavy and won't move.

The highlight of my day was expecting UPS to deliver my new case (an Enlight 7237) so I could have fun with that.

While I'm at work, my family is home. Doors open, windows open, sister's van in the driveway. You can obviously tell that there's someone home. The driver stops by at about 5 pm, carries the box to the back door, drops it off, and drives away.

Why didn't he knock on the freakin' door? Is he scared of me? What? When I ordered the parts for my major computer build last year, I was always at the door to greet my driver. He even joked that he saw me more than he saw his own family.

Ever since then, though, whenever UPS delivers a package, it just gets left at the side door. These have been some pretty expensive orders too. And there has always been someone home. A few of the packages even required a signature!

Why do they do this?

Oh I was pissed. When I was building my computer I just needed my Athlon and it would be done! I waited all day, but I heard no knock and I constantly looked outside but saw nothing on the porch. I waited hours and hours until finally I saw it behind a plant on my porch. The next time the UPS guy came (with a replacement power supply) a month later I caught him and bitched at him for a while. Damn that bastard.

My UPS guys have been pretty cool. If they are dropping something off that doesn't need a signature, they knock anyway when the leave the package on my doorstep.

Mine always knocks. And he is really sweet too. I taught him how to get all the good stuff off the internet, so he loves bringing my packages now! ;)

I sent a CPU to a guy last friday, UPS Overnite, specifying and paying extra for Saturday delivery. He emails me Saturday night and says they said the delivery failed because nobody was home. He was there all day, waiting. For having a failed delivery attempt, you's think they'd leave a note on the door. Nope, they weren't there. I'm gonna go try and hammer them for my extra money I paid for overnite shipping back. :(

I just don't get it. I've seen the driver walk off a few times, and he looks like the driver I had last year. So I would think he would remember who I am. Oh well. Nothing has been stolen/broken yet. Cross my fingers. :|

<< They do it so that they can leave damaged packages and get away before you see them ... >>

That is SO true. My dad ordered a CD tower from Damark a few years back, and our UPS guy delivered it to our house. My mom happened to be home at the time. She hard a loud WHAM and then the sound of an engine starting up.

Turns out that he had thrown the CD tower down on the porch and drove off. My mom opened the box and saw the broken tower and called UPS and got his ass chewed out :p

Funny thing is, they are best of friends now ;) He also delivers to her job, and before the incident he never spoke to her. Now you can't get him to stop ;) He talks to her about his trips to the beach all the time, and about his daughter that goes down to State with me. He'll even bring my small packages to her work if no one is home. And if no one is at her work, he'll bring the packages to our house for her to sign off on them.

In fact when my Monitor from Buy.com got lost, he went and tracked it down for me and bought it back the next day;)

And his ass had better be here today with my 1.3 megapixel Fuji camera or I am gonna raise hell!! It was supposed to be here yesterday but they rescheduled delivery :|

Hahah basically for UPS, it depends on the delivery person. If you are lucky and get a cool guy working in your area, then you are safe. If you get a punk, well then you are scrweed.
