Ah Extra stout. Yeh that has a boot to it. I've never found that on tap anywhere. Actually never found it on tap in Ireland either. 😕

I've only been able to buy it in bottles.

If you really want to try some unique brews, try finding a pub that serves some Belgium ales on tap. A brewery I used to live close to had St Bernardus ABT 12 and Piraat Strong ale on tap.

Those were 10% and 10.5%. And incredibly good. Definitely not bitter though. Almost fruity, closer to a wine than a beer.

I rarely go for tap.

However, high COH count works against me. It's 11:30 am on my holiday and I am down 4 beers.

Guinness doesn't travel well . . . it tastes MUCH [much] much better in Dublin. 😉

and it is really [really] really nasty in bottles 😛
[contrasted with Draught Guinness]😉

[can't tell you about it's taste in cans - i spit the sample out]

Meh. Nothing like being assaulted non-stop by Guinness propaganda...err...marketing every 10 feet and being charged $5.00 a pint for it. Guinness is ridiculously overmarketed and overpriced in it's home city.

For the money and the taste, my wife and I took a strong liking to Smithwicks. It's a brown ale that was about half the price of Guinness.

And if memory serves me correct, the Guinness we have on tap here is actually brewed in Canada and shipped down.

beer ain't meant to be benchmarked.

Haven't had a Guinness I didn't like, but I ain't trying to bring it home to f.k it either.

I actually prefer the "widget" cans over Draft many times. But then just about any beer that comes out of a widget can (Guinness, Boddingtons, Wexford Cream Ale, Youngs Double Chocolate Stout, Old Speckled Hen, ect) are almost always heavenly.

So smoooooooooth.

You have brought the wine freaks to the beer world.

ain't going to prove anything to you, just like them. I am highly Irish though, Guinness is budweiser there...as is Harp, etc....you should know this. I had a few brought back...not bad to me at all.

I am sure I'd like their beer just fine if I were in Dublin, since there is no other place in Ireland right? You lived there I hope during your drinking age....being your post count is so high, hope you worked from home to drink so much though 🙂

People bash my mich ultra I drink now. I like it and that's all that matters in drinking a beer. I used to drink Guinness and high COH beers. I like the taste now so try to keep myself upright longer.

go powder your nose though it's a bit shiny.

Actually, i moved to Dublin just after i turned 18 and returned to Cali just a few days after i turned 21 . . . so yeah, i was of 'legal drinking age'.

Since you haven't tasted Guiness Draught in Dublin you are ignorant to its taste there - being Irish has nothing to do it. Beer in bottles "brought back" is zero proof of anything.😛

And yes, i traveled extensively all over that little Island as i was active with the Dublin Chess club. . . . the Guinness IS better in Dublin [generally].

no soap . . . just what i experienced 😉

i get it . . . but you are not accepting the fact that Guinness Draught in Dublin is worlds better than the Guinness you are drinking in cans . . . or bottles

. . . that's all

if you get the chance, try it in Dublin
[it's worth the trip] 😉

guiness isnt a beer, its a stout

Ok, there's 2 main categories of beer:
1) Ales
2) lagers

Guinness is a stout which falls in the ale category! It's a beer

This misconception is the main problem why the craft beer industry hasn't taken off like it should. People don't understand that there are dozens of styles of beers. If they did, they would be more comfortable in trying new stuff.

well . . . i thought Guinness in bottles was bad until i [almost] tasted it from a can :Q
😛

returning to the USA was enough to get me to quit drinking alcohol . . . forever
[even though we DO have some good micro-breweries]

Ah, Guinness. The original 'stiff' drink.

For those who have no clue what it is, image a beer so dark that no light passes through. In fact, so dark it may be a black hole. A beer so thick that it is an art form to poor it with a small head. The beer is so rich that you would think a spoon will stand in it. A beer bitter enough that if you can finish a six pack (and remember where you are), that any beer after that will have a wonderful, light taste.

BTW, I prefer Mackeson Triple-X 😀

can and bottle do taste like crap to me. draught is the only way to drink it. it must be poured correctly, also. if your drinking your guinness within 2 mins of ordering it, you might as well pour it out.
