ok, i recently aquired a mobo and cpu. i was told the cpu was a 166mmx. from the markings on the chip it looks like its a 133. anyways, its running at 150 mhz because i have no manual for the mobo and dont want to fry anything. the BIOS reports the chip as a Pentium-S CPU.. WTF is that?
any help would be greatly apreciated

Um....I think all the S means is it is an oringinal Pentium, ie Non MMX etc...

The Pentium-S name I kinda remeber, I'm pretty sure it just means its an original one, but dont quote me. I dont think it's anything special though!

If your processor really is a P55C Pentium MMX, the POST screen would indicate that.

A P54C Pentium "Classic" is identified as a PENTIUM-S CPU by AWARD 4.50 motherboard BIOSes. The "-S" on the end of the name indicates that power saving features are present on the processor (ie sleep mode). Then again, all Pentium processors should have this feature.
