Pentium processor worth it?

Just to put my situation into perspective, I am moving to a farm in Central America, where I will have no need for my Macbook Pro, which is also too flashy for the area if i were to ever use it in public. I am looking at getting a cheap laptop for my wife and I to use. I'm looking at the current Dell Inspiron, as I like the build quality and the form factor (I checked them out at Bestbuy). I'm wondering if I will regret getting the Pentium seeing how it is a stepped down core i processor, with some features disabled, as I understand it. Will disabling features give me any benefit like less power consumption, or will the similar ghz i3 consume as much or less power? Does Intel step them down for the sole reason of hitting a certain market share, or is it intentional to create a lower powered processor? I also am wondering, if I am ever to do any video editing, will the Pentium be powerful enough for 720p footage in a freeware video editor without being terribly slow? Should I just pony up for a core i? The computer will mainly be used for email, photo editing and storage and maybe ms office. I'm wondering if it will be more powerful than our late 2009 Macbook with the core 2 duo, which has a longer battery life. What do YOU think?

Thanks in advanced.

An example of one I'm looking at.

I personally would go for something with an i3 or an i5 in it, performance wise from what I can tell, even though it is slower ghz wise, performance should be about the same or better. but the integrated graphics are better. I went to cpu-world.com and did a comparison of the p8600 c2d and the 2117u, only advantage that the p8600 had was higher base ghz, but the 2117u has better integrated graphics.

consider checking out delloutlet, both the consumer side and the business side, if there are coupon codes, you can get a much better deal from them.

Thanks for the lead on the Dell Outlet. Great prices.
