Will an FX motherboard w/ Pentium Pro 200 be able to detect a 30GB IDE drive? Currently mine cannot. It's a new system I'm building, and I've verified all that I can.

Any help will be appreciated!

if it doesn't detect it, enter it into the bios manually. but make sure you have the latest bios. if that doesn't work then you can use a program like maxblast for maxtor hd's. you'll have to partition it to use it all.

It depends how new the motherboard is and if the manufacturer has kept up with BIOS updates.

I just updated the BIOS to the latest version -- circa 1997. And a correction: It's a WD drive, not Maxtor. I must have inhaled...

Anyway, WD's EZ-BIOS won't install without selecting the option to format the whole drive FAT32. I want to load Linux/Solaris on this box. Any ideas if Maxtor's MaxBlast would work, and if so, would it let me install a non-Windows OS?

Ok. I'm stumped. If my BIOS won't recognize my 30GB drive, and I don't want to partition it and format w/ FAT32 using WD's EZ-INSTALL, how do I install anything non-Windows?

Is there a non-manufacturer utility like EZ-BIOS that will just enable my system to see this drive?

Go buy an ATA66 controller. I saw them clearanced at my local staples for about $13. It would recognize the drive.
