Hey, I was eyeing the Acer Aspire AS2012WLMi and I was wondering about the Pentium M.

I read that the Pentium M is highly efficient, so I was wondering what P4 would a 1.5GHz M be roughly equivalent to?

Basically I'm looking for a laptop that is affordable (sub 2K) and yet still powerful enough for video editting (a desktop replacement). I don't mind weight or battery life so much..although of course I dont want a 9 pound behemoth that runs out of juice in 1 hour.

If you are going to be using it for video editing, you'll want one with a P4. At least a 2.8Ghz. That Acer notebook is very nice though, I am actualy planning to get one in a few months.

Go for a Pentium M. A 1.5Ghz is probably a little faster than a P4 2.4. Your budget will get a higher-clocked Pentium M if you need more power. Much less battery power, heat and noise than the P4.

Hmmm thanks for all the replies.

Just a few questions.

If I buy the Acer through Newegg, and I need tech support, can I get it through Acer directly?

And if a laptop doesnt support firewire, like the Acer Notebook TravelMate TM2502LMi, am I able to get a PC Card that does? (Where?)

Athlon64's worth considering in mobile. On the battery, it'll last 4hrs on low work load (i.e. browsing , document editing etc) by dropping its operating frequency to 800mhz. It can use more CPU on demand although its a little more reluctant in mobile mode.

When plugged in, it'll run at full power when needed (cool n quiet again).

What OrooOroo said....

+

Pentium M 1.5 Ghz = Pentium 4 2.25 Ghz (If it existed)

I own a p4m laptop and a pentium M too.

btw....p4 s usually run hotter..

If you find a place you can actually buy that laptop, in stock, for under $1299, please post here and let us know.

Best Buy has some pretty good deals on Compaq 2800+ A64 notebooks right now. (At least in Canada, I assume prices are falling everywhere).
