Pentium M vs P4 for notebooks

How does the Pentium M processor compare to a P4 powered notebook? Also what is a the P4 equivalent to Pentium M 1.4GHz? I have been given $1000 for a notebook but I no pretty much nothing about them so I am not sure what to get.

roughly ... a P4 2.0 ghz = P M 1.4 ghz in terms of performance (Someone correct me if i am wrong)

But the advantage of a Pentium M is obviously the low power usage, which translates to thinner, cooler, lighter notebooks, with better battery life.

Its pretty much about ur priorities... If performance is of utmost importance to you.. get a p4...
If battery life and portability matter more... get a Pentium M.

forgot to add, this belongs in the SFF, Notebooks forum.

Also, do a search on this on the notebooks forum. Its been discussed a lot.
