Pentium M @ 1.4 Ghz or Celeron @ 2.0 Ghz?

For a functional laptop, from a sheer processing power standpoint, anyone have any experience between the two?

The Pentium M has twice the processing power, and at least 1.5 times the battery life. Which would you pick?;)

Pentium M can be compared to Tiger Woods.

The celeron is the little b!tch that runs around and shags Tiger Woods golf balls at the driving range. Except he has one lung.

Okay...I'm fishing for an analogy here, but hopefully you understand what I'm saying.

The Celeron would probably be beat by a PIII 1.4, let alone a P-M 1.4.

The Celeron also has an extraordinarily poor sense of direction which will require several hours of staring at the map in order to find the golf balls. I would pay the extra cash for the P-M.

it'd be like a indy race car (p-m) vs. a pinto (celly)

pay the extra money for it

A P4 celeron is basically a mobile Willamette in that it has 256kb of lvl 2 cache. Its is not as dire as you make out. the pm1.4 is equal to a 2.2ghz p4 northwood so in actuality the difference is not that high.

wHAT i mean to say is ... PM 1.4 = P4 2.1 ... (what you agree to ...)

As for the 2.0 Celery = 1.1 P4 ghz... (if it existed)

The point of my post is that yes a desktop celeron is a pile of cr@p, but a mobile celeron is not that bad as its less restricted by having twice the cache (128 vs 256) so in actual fact it should perform similar to a p41.8a.

Lost circuits comparing williamette vs northwood at 2.0ghz this link shows it to be around 5-10% clock for clock slower. So a mobile celeron is equal to a 1.8 northwood based P4 (and probably a 2.0ghz prescott :) )

Man guys you can't compare current gen processors at very low speeds like 1.5-2.0GHz because there are a lot of factors to consider like the performance scaling per clock which has to do with the bandwidth available and whether the processor is saturating it or not. And by the way look at the benchmarks of the first Celeron which was at 1.7GHz
Link: http://www.anandtech.com/cpu/showdoc.html?i=1622
Okay its pretty bad but not as bad as you say since the benchmarked one is at 1.7GHz and you are comparing a 2.0GHz now. My point is you guys are exaggerating. And Prescott 2.0GHz isn't like Celeron 2.0GHz. Can't you see in the benchmarks that per performance Northwood and Prescott is nearly the same(Like less than 3% difference not like 30% people say).

Okay I'll put that away for other times. Yeah anyway get the Pentium M 1.4GHz rather than the Celeron 2.0GHz. Heck you might want to get the Celeron M(Banias) rather than the Celeron 2.0GHz(Northwood), or Pentium M 1.4GHz if you are cash strapped.
