What DDR would I need to run a Pentium IV with a 533mhz FSB? I think I need PC 4200 but I want to make sure that's correct.

Actually no you only need PC2100 aka PC266. Though you may want to get PC3500(PC433) in case you decide to upgrade at some point to a Springdale or Canterwood board.

Really? How does the FSB get 533mhz out of 266 DDR? It's actually transferring four times per clock tick? I didn't think they could do more than twice per clock tick?

133 x 4 (Quad-pumped bus)
133 x 2 (Double data rate)

The 845 boards take DDR 333, though, and some other boards use RDRAM (PC 1066).

I'm looking at the MSI 848P Neo-LS. Trying to keep it inexpensive but with some decent performance. Will that board work ok for me? So PC-2100, runs at 533mhz on the P4 chipsets. Live and learn! This is my first P4 system. Up until now I've been a die hard AMD fan.

The MSI 848P Neo-LS will take either PC2100, PC2700, or PC3200. PC2100 will actually run at 266MHz, just like on an AMD system and not 533MHz. The difference is that the CPU runs at 4 x FSB and DDR RAM runs at 2 x FSB. Whereas with an AMD rig, the CPU and RAM run at the same speed (2 x FSB).

...anyway, to answer your question, I would go with the PC2100 unless you plan on upgrading to a P4 with the 800MHz FSB (in which case I would go with the PC3200).
