I put my old PIII 600EB in an old BH6 and flashed the BIOS with the BIOS update for PIII 600.
The best I can do is get 450E it does seem to think it's a PIII however.

Anyone ever tried this, successfully

Thanks

That's because your 600EB is a 133mhz fsb cpu , and your BH6 defaults to 100 fsb giving your 450mhz instead of 600mhz.

I'm not sure just how stable your BH6 will be running at 133mhz fsb due to the dividers required and how able your other peripherals will run , if you have a 1/4 pci and 2/3 agp you might be able to get away with it provided you have pc 133 ram installed.

I thought that might be it! Well the chip is on a "slotket" which will allow me to set the converter card to 100 mhz bus.
I wonder if it would let me use that and take a 600 setting in the CMOS?

I can't offer any help with the PIII-600 issue, but I also have a BH6 and recently added an ATA100 controller card to get over the ATA33 hump that the stock BH6 offers. The difference has been incredible. Once you resolve the CPU issue it would be worth the effort and the $26 to widen the pipe a little with a controller card.

I've got 512 megs and a 550 with a GF2 card and it does an excellent job for a 3 year old system.

Well the fact of the matter is that your cpu has a locked multiplier of 4.5 x 100 fsb = 450mhz final speed , so if you had the ability to run 133fsb then you'd get 600mhz 4.5 x 133 = 600 mhz .

What made the BH6 such a fantastic board from Abit was it's ability to jump from 66mhz to 100mhz giving you a 33% increase on your celeron's if they had the ability to overclock well , I remember many moons back running my 300a celeron @464 on a BH6 :D.

You might be able to get one of the updated slotkets that have multiple fsb settings up and beyond 133 along with voltage adjustments .
