I got a question I hope somone here should be able to help me out with.

I got a nice price on a Pentium III 1ghz, but when I look at the system profile it doesn't say the chip is a Pentium III, it says this:

GenuineIntel
Pentium(r) II processor
Intel MMX Technology

So is it a pentium II, or a pentium III?

Is that how its supposed to be?

Do I need to give some more info. Thanks and the replies are appreciated.

ahh ok. I'll pursue that.

Kind of a noob here. So I'll do some research about how to update the BIOS.

Is there a general prog I could run to detect the chip?

Thanks.

Excellent. Now you'll just have to update your BIOS so that the CPU is recognized properly. Which motherboad do you have?

If you want to use EVEREST, use THIS version instead. It's their latest beta. It's not got an installer, you just extract it and run the "everest.exe" file.

Mostly just updated recognition files. Later versions of the beta improved how well EVEREST detected my motherboard (Soltek did a bad job with hooks in the BIOS).

Been a while now, but I want to update the bios.

The motherboard i have is

i815EP-ITE8712

I think its Intel because the chipset is Intel and the number for the chipset is
i815/E/EP

I used bios agent and it said the current bios was

Award Modular BIOS v6.00PGN
03/01/2001-i815EP-IT8702-6A69RL1HC-00

Any way to do this for free?

Thanks a bunch!
