Here's my problem. My lady is running a Pentium II mmx 266 mhz on an ASUS P2L97 mobo. I want to upgrade the processor. What P-II or after market pro can I run without haveing to redo the harddirve. AND where can I find the needed info on upgrades. Any and all info will be a great help. I DO NOT want to change the mobo.
thanks in advance

You have an Intel LX AGP set, and you are able to run any Pentium II on a 66MHz bus. That means (233, 266, 300, 333) processors are your only hope. I have a 300 lying around if your'e interested.

<<Redo the harddrive?>>

Whats that supposed to mean?

<<Redo the harddrive?>>
I think that he believes he'll need to reinstall if he changes cpu which is not necessary!

Thanks for the replys so far. and yes I though that I might have to reinstall the OS for a new processer.
What I understand is that I can only go up to 333 without changeing the mobo?
again, thanks

Sadly so. But if you have a bus speed jumpers or in the BIOS you might be able to go up to 500MHz (Fastest processor it can take is 333 (66*5) 100*5 = 500) So if you have the setting(s) to get up to 100 then you can overclock 266Mhz(66*4) to a possible 400Mhz machine. But be sure to get 100MHz ram. I can't guarantee your PCI/AGP bus speeds though.

Forget 100Mhz bus on the LX board. The best you can do is a Celeron 533 (not 533A) if the BIOS will support the Mendicino core with 2.0 volts. You can get an adapter, CPU and fan for about $50-70. Much better than the 266. RRRRRRRR

<< I thought PPGA was not compatible with slockets. Or until FC-PGA. >>

you can get some slockets which cater for both ppga & fcpga cpus!

PPGA definitely works with slotkets. I am using a Celeron 433 with a MSI slotket as we speak on my LX chipset.
