pentium II cpu fan

Hi,

I bought my P2 266 about 2 years ago, boxed, and it came with a fan, which has an intel label on it. I was just looking at the cpu/fan combo today and I realized the fan is impossible to take out because it's screwed onto the cpu(I think) with some funky screws. Since I have used the cpu/fan combo for a while now, I am expecting it to die anyday. So I was wondering does anyone know how would you replace the fan if it breaks?

It's ain't screwed to the CPU.

I'm guessing it's a SLOT-1 CPU with that fat black plastic case.

I won't be of much help here, but this is what I'd do...

Remove any/all screws you can....remove fan.....
You should be able to remove the fan, leaving hte heatsink where it is....then just put the replacement fan on...that's it.

Wish I could be more help, but since nobody tried I'm giving it a go....

If the heatsink is riveted to the plastic cartridge then you can drill out the rivets.

This is a non reversable process, that once you do it you are unable to reattach that heatsink. You can however reatttach another heasink that attaches differently.
