I have a Dell XPS 400 and it has a Pentium D in it. Right before the C2D came out I called Dell and asked them if my computer would be able to handle a C2D upgrade. The lady said no. Is this true? I mean it has a 775 LGA socket, won?t this fit a C2D? If I am not able to upgrade, does anyone know why not? Thanks.

Not all 775 mobos will support a C2D. You need to find out which motherboard you have and whether a BIOS update could fix the issue or if C2D is just not supported on that board.

Run everest and find out what motherboard you have. If you have a P965 chipset or P945 you might just need a BIOS update to be able to run it.

Did the Dell lady explain why you can't upgrade? Like mentioned, check to see what chipset the motherboard has.

AFAIK the XPS 400 does not support the operating voltages used by the Core 2 series.
