Pentium D 945 + Big Typhoon = temp?

I have a feeling that I may not install the heatsink correctly.

I used to have a Pentium D 805@3.6GHz with this heatsink and the cpu temperature never broke 33C under load. The motherboard temperature is always around 30C-ish; idle or load. Room temperature is between 68-72F depends on outdoor temp.

Recently I upgraded the cpu to Pentium D 945 and running it at stock speed of 3.4GHz. The wattage differences between these processors is a +- 6watts (805=89watts; 945=95watts). So it shouldn't be much difference in term of heat output. Anyway, my 945 + big typhoon is idle @40C while load is at 45C running on stock speed.

May be the heatsink doesn't have enough contact with the processor? I want to know before hand because I don't want to everything out to reseat the heatsink.

Thanks.

The 925 should be lower wattage than a 805 at similar clockspeeds. Also, the 805 should be running a lot hotter than 33c at 3.6 even with a Big Typhoon. Load at 45C is pretty good for a 900 series prescott with a big cooler.

945 is a presler. that was what I got when I have my 805 + big typhoon in the system. I expected the 945 to run no more hotter than the 805. I suspected may be I over-tighten the heatsink screws.

Honestly, it's incredibly unlikely 33C load with your TT BT was a correct load temp w/ ambient temps of 20C or higher.

I'd say your temps are a bit lowish for both CPUs, but the 805's 33C load is simply not realistic for that CPU.

How is that possible, I don't know but that is what the BIOS read. I do notice with 945 that when I OC to 3.74GHz; the temperature is still the same as it was stock speed. hmmmmm
