How big of a gaming performance increase would I see if I got a E6600 core 2 duo chip?
I play fo3, fo nv, and borderlands at 1280x720

I have to set fo3 to medium default with no AA or af. I'm using a asus 8800gt 512mb card

Here is my fps in fo3. Outside in the open the low is 29, avg 35 max is 60, this is medium settings default no AA or af

What do you think my frame rate would go up to with the E6600

Stock speed E6600? There are two E6600, but since you're talking about replacing a D930, I'll assume this is the older 2.66Ghz/4MB L2/1066FSB 65nm chip.

Framerate should go up 40-50% on CPU-limited scenarios, less so on GPU-limited situations. Given that you're dealing with 1280x720, it should be mostly CPU limited with that old Pentium D (essentially two late-gen P4's sandwiched in one package).

IMHO, it would be a substantial improvement, and would mean a pretty balanced system with the 8800GT/512, 2GB DDR2, and 1280x720 res.

Is 1280x720 the max res for that TV? I would advice 1366x768 if it's the native resolution (it usually is on "720p" TVs).

I can do 1366x768. Why do you mention that?

Because 1366x768 looks much better/sharper on 720p TVs when that is their native resolution, particularly if the TV has a 'gaming' or 'PC' mode, which allows for per-pixel accuracy. When you run a digital panel display in a non-native or non-divisible resolution, the resulting quality is significantly reduced in terms of sharpness, the panel has to approximate as best as possible but never looks as good as it should.

With the upgrade to an E6600, games should run at 1366x768 with decent details for the most part with an 8800GT.

I can understand trying 1280x720 with a P-D 930 though.
