Okay I saw this on sale today: Pentium 805 D
well actually a few weeks ago but the sale ends today. Lots of searching on anandtech says I should avoid the Pentium Ds because they run hot and don't perform as well as the comprable AMD chip.
The thing is I like conroe and while the AMD dual cores are not out yet I need to decide before EOB today so I can catch the sale of the chip above because the boards I'm looking at currently support Pentium D and Conroe.
The main uses of this computer: internal webserver, internal file server, software engineering, maybe video encoding (heavy heavy maybe), web surfing, occasional gaming like BF2 (best buy is getting mad at me from hanging out there), and occasional lan party server. Primaries will be SE, web surfing, and internal web server/file server and that's about it (getting the Wii).
So that's about it. Help.
Not tied to intel but prefer best performance for price and what i want to do.
