I am a bit confused about the socket type for pentium m/celeron m cpus. Some venders seem to have them available in both socket 478 and 479. This vendor : http://www.xpcgear.com/pentiumm.html says that they are socket 478/479(which doesnt make sense to me). Some articles seem to say that they are all socket 479. According to specifications on intel's website, they are available in both configurations. Can anyone clarify this? Is there a way to tell if a pentium M is a 478 or 479 by looking at the model number?

I am interested in the M series because I am thinking about putting a computer in my car, and the psus available for automoblie enviromnets have low power ratings, so the low power consumption of these cpus is appealing. It seems with the confusion about the socket type I would need to buy a cpu, wait for it to arrive so i can open it up and figure out its socket type, then buy the particular SFF barebones that I want with the socket to match the cpu.

If you want a low power solution check out a VIA C3/EPIA MOBO combination. You could go for 1Ghz with a fan or 600Mhz without a fan. Plus they are ITX. Which means you can use smaller board PSUs instead of actual PSU's.
