i saw the word "pentium 5" here and there but i would just like a simple answer.

1) is it a bunch of bull shit

2) not for a long long long long long time

3)very possible and upcoming

well....it would make sence for intel to make one since the boost in AMD products

great thats what i thought, but you never know..............the government probably gots a computer thats running off of a new power source that goes faster then the speed of light............and in the next 100+ years when it come out, there will be no such thing as a faster processor but then the giant coorperations will confuse us all once again and we will all be saving up to buy these processors that all go the same speed.........questions how civilized the human race is when everything revolves around sheets of paper called "currency" with pretty pictures on them and "specie" which is worth so much because it is shiny.... hmmm......i think i will make that statement my sig.

It is difficult to say what the next product to be graced with the "Pentium 5" moniker will be.

Tejas: original P5; cancelled
Cedar Mill: 65nm, 4GHz+; probably cancelled
Dual-core Prescott in ~9months: maybe
Conroe in ~2 years: dual-core Dothan; maybe

They could have called Prescott "Pentium 5" if they wished, but they already knew that it would be short-lived.

We know what products are planned for the next 3 years, so what Marketing decides to call the "Pentium 5" is just semantics.

Intel likely to drop P4 brand, re-brand as Digital something
What's pretty clear is that when Intel does release its X20, its X30 and its X40, it will probably go for a re-brand and the Pentium 4 brand will shuffle off into history. Intel's "Digital" brand will elide the differences between its various components, and also make it easier to position the Pentium M into the overall framework, we'd suggest.

A "digital brand" would also follow in the footsteps of the wildly successful Centrino brand. Intel's aggressive marketing of the kitemark and the Centrino brand has paid dividends for it. To many folk, wi-fi notebooks and Centrino means the same.

Digital!?!

Pentium 5 = marketing hype if & when it comes out.

The only purpose it will serve is to get more unknowledgeable people rushing into stores to buy the great new CPU

After 10 years and $40,000,000,000 in marketing, I do not believe they will simply discard the Pentium name.

Seriously... that's like Coke ditching their brand and just renaming it "Brown Drink."

Digital? Wow... and this whole time I though Intel processors were analog? 😕

Isn't that bizarrely ironic, considering what they did when they bought the Alpha fab, some of DEC (then Compaq's engineers that were on the Alpha team, along with the allegations of patent-infringement of some of DEC's advanced CPU design techniques used in later Intel-made chips).

It would be nice to see the "Digital" brand-name live again. I hope Intel doesn't butcher their legacy.

(After all, before Google, before Hotbot, was Altavista.digital.com, along with other mythical sites like gatekeeper.dec.com, and ftpmail, etc. DEC was as much a core part of the early internet as anyone was.)

Well, Coca-Cola did go through the "new coke" fiasco, and Pepsi tried their "clear" version of their drink.
I can only guess that marketing execs get bored from time-to-time too, and feel the need to "innovate", when in fact they were placed in positions of power solely so that they couldn't actually do anything dangerous.. like that.

The newer versions could be called something like sexium , septium, octium......😉

Pentium 5. Sounds good to me.Maybe they should push the envelope and get a 10ghz processor that is equal to a 2ghz AMD and make it run as hot as the sun!

What about obvious - "Opium".

Talk about "addictive" upgrades. 🙂

("Hemparon" would be their "entry-level" product line, of course.)

Why would they release a Pentium 5 when people still buy their Celeron line? If people only knew the truth about Intel....
