Just read Anand's review of the P4, and HOLY MOLY the FPU is through the roof! This baby could kick some real booty in SETI!
 
The FPU blows chunks. Its the memory subsystem which is what it is very strong at. Intel is relying on massive bandwidth, and hoping/praying/pleading for software vendors to embrace SSE2. If S@H gets SSE2, you can rest assured that it will smoke.
 
I doubt it will ,they havent used SSE so far ,or 3D now for that matter.

right.. make Seti faster... HA! they want it slow as can be. Heck, I think AMD and Intel both rewrote the code to take advantage of there cpus but Seti woulden't hear of it.

Someone at Ars did a benchmark on a Dell P4 here. He's trying to figure out what might be wrong about the reported CPUID at POST (BIOS?) 😉, but the results are interesting.
