hey guys,

a friend of mine gave me a old watercooler rig to me. its a koolance case with everything on/in it. pump and resevoir are mounted.

its a pentium 4 with a 486 socket? (not sure)

i had the watercooler/pc running for 3 minutes and turned then turned off.

i am totally new to custom WC. so now is the chance to learn it hehe.

so my question can i reuse the pump/resevoir/radiator/fan controler for a am3 rig or other pc.

ofc with a new socket waterblock.

anyone have a idea to remove those pump/ resevoir from the case?

If the loop works and runs fine, the only part that isn't recyclable is the CPU block. Others parts might work but it could be too old or undersized to be of any good.

A picture would be helpful. Its hard to get the image in my head of something that is of a set and it is old. If all else fails, undo the barbs/clamps and remove the tubes. Drain the fluid before doing anything.

I feel like watercooling tech has come along way from back then but if your not expecting too much from it why not go for it.

so if I wanna use this water cooling system again. I just need to fill new "destilled water" maybe new hose? and ofcourse the new waterblock for the new socket, am I right?

Holy crap. That's in terrible shape.

I'd advise against using it

That is definitely old. The hose is not of the current standard which is bigger(3/8, 1/2), crucial if you actually want to use a new block unless you could find barbs that actually fit the tubing. You could try changing the old tube to a new one(1/4) without new barbs for the whole loop but it might create potential leaks. Not sure how much good the radiator is gonna do you. Its smaller than what it is now and it might be clogged up from years of use.

so even 20$ aftermark cooler is better than this watercooling system? and this system is waste of time?

so if I really want water cooling, you guys recommend me for a newer WC system?

what hardware are you trying to use it on? that is the main question to answer, alot of newer stuff doesnt really use alot of heat so it would be ok so long as everything is in working order.

but i wouldnt expect any better performance than a Corsair H50 AIO unit.

if it doesnt work out for you shoot me a pm i'd be interested in buying it, i've got a old dual s940 server it would work good on.

I wouldn't really call it a waste of time but if you have to add in a new waterblock to support the new socket, I'd say it is a waste of time unless you mod the original block to fit current sockets. WC can be quite an expensive hobby, my CPU block alone costs nearly as much as a Noctua NH-D14. If on a tight budget, an air cooler would work as good or better than the WC setup you have right now.

If you're looking for an easy way out, sealed AIO options like Corsair H80/H100 is good but they are pricey nonetheless. If you still want the challenge of putting something together yourself, a WC kit is often times cheaper than buying them individually. XSPC Raystorm 750 RS240 is one of the cheapest WC kits you can get without compromising much of the expandability of a custom loop. But be warned, it gets addictive. ;)
