Pentium 4 Socket423 Motherboard w/VIA Chipset, Audio, DDR Support, $29.00 + shipping @ compgeeks.

I would never use a no-name mobo in my computer. Way too risky. Good deal for someone else though 😉

This board is manufactured by VIA. Looks like this part of VIA's business is relatively new and hasn't hit the retail market yet. From their VIA PSD website

The VIA Platform Solutions Division (VPSD) is an autonomous new business unit established by VIA. Its aim is to provide our customers with a complete set of innovative platform building blocks for building high quality, high performance servers, workstations, PCs, and Total Connectivity devices that meet the needs of all market segments.

VPSD products include both mainboards and reference system designs such as the Information PC and InformationStation. Based on VIA's industry-leading chipset technologies, they not only deliver the highest levels of performance and reliability, but also come with the most advanced features and technologies such as DDR266 SDRAM support. As a result, VPSD products help OEMs and System Integrators increase their competitiveness by speeding up product time to market and reducing validation cycles.

The usual and familiar 10% discount code, for all but Geek Specials, is easily found. Is there really a $10 coupon?

Edit: Thanks for the PM. There is a $10 off code, specific to this mobo, which makes the board really cheap. The Geeks also have a Chaintech socket A mobo for about $30 (after applying the usual 10% discount) Here.

I have built a couple of systems with this board. I had the retail version of this and it came with a 5 year warranty. Great for cheapie system for a friend/relative. IF you can find a decent P4 423 chip for the right money you have it made...cheap. Can use regular ATX power supply too. Extra USB ports give you a total of six. Pair it up with the cheap $28 case at Computer Geeks...decent cheapie 4 sure.

VIA isn't that new
i have a P3 motherboard by them, got it 2 years ago
works fine to me
i wouldn't mind for more PCI slots though
but nothing bad about them

What he is talking about is that this motherboard is made my VIA themselves. Your P3 motherboard has a VIA chipset on it, but it was built by somebody else. VIA recently starting manufacturing their own P4 motherboards. They did this because Intel sued VIA over the chipset and third party manufacturers are shying away.

Nice cheap board...good find!
