Pentium 4 users!

A guy called Andreas Stiller (of c't magazine, germany) has created a little program that lets you disable hardware prefetch in the P4. One of the things many people have wondered about is how much does this feature help performance on the P4 and other chips. Well now you can test it!

The program is linked in this Inq story.

If you can please run your standard benchmarks with prefetch on and off and report the results in this thread! It will be very interesting to know how much it effects performance (if at all) in various benchmarks. The more benchmarks and configurations the merrier!

A golden star to the first one who reports Q3 benchmarks :)

Oh and don't forget to disclose your system configuration. Especially memory subsystem (DDR or RDR) is of interest.

I dunno...something about disabling a part of my processor just doesn't sound like a good idea....

I don't own a P4 unfortunately. But I hope to post some scores from a friend's P4 soon. It's a 2GHz Willamette running in 850/RDRAM. He already tested the utility and it works, but doesn't have any good benchmarks yet. So I'm still working on it :)

There is absolutely no harm in this program. C't is one of the most respectable german PC hardware magazines. It's the same ones who post SPEC scores for the P4 in their reviews.

One guy over at the RWT forum already tested this running WSTREAM. You can see the results here.
