So in my quest to build a system, I decided to ask each question about the components seperately.

I do game a little, but not a ton. Just sports games like Madden or NBA Live. ANd I also do media encoding, video editing, etc. Would a dual core processor be for me? Or should I hold off on it until it is more mainstream and the standard?

Because I can get pretty good cpu's for a lot cheaper if I don't get dual core.

I was thinking about this:
Intel Pentium 4 630 Prescott 800MHz FSB 2MB L2 Cache LGA 775 EM64T Processor - Retail
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116198

And I could get one of the newer motherboards that supports it and dual core, so i would not have to upgrade the motherboard when i want to go dual core

I should probably just get a real good single core Athlon 64 shouldn't I?

A dual core will make a huge differance for your video/media encoding applications. No reason to hold off on a dual core if you can afford it now. And if you still decide on a single core pentium-4, I would hold off a little longer until Cedar Mill is available, they run a good bit cooler and are less power hungry than prescott.
