Please help out a newbie, I just upgraded my system with new mobo Asus P4C800 deluxe and a P4 3ghz 800fsb proc it has 1gig of Kingston 3200DDR 400mhz ram and I have the bios set to auto detect cpu and memory settings when I benchmarked with 3d mark 2003 I noticed in the system info that my P4 3ghz shows an external clock of 200.0mhz, is this correct? I know many of you build your own systems so any input would be greatly appreciated.

The external clock speed is the Front Side Bus speed. The Pentium 4 with the 800 MHz bus actually has a 200 MHz Quad pumped Front Side Bus, The internal clock speed of your processor is still 3.0 GHz.

like my mobo is 133 dulepumped its so you can run slower ram (i think)

It's not Double Pumped so you can run slower RAM, that is just how AMD designed it. Essentially, the newest Intel P4's and the newest Athlon XP Barton's have the same external clock (200 MHz).

Athlons are dual pumped, Pentium4s are quad pumped. So wanando, you're OK KraziKid had it right and you should use DDR400 at the least. P4s use either a 100 (400 MHz), 133 (533 MHz), or 200 (800 MHz) quad pumped bus and Athlons use either a 100 (200 MHz), 133 (266 MHz), 166 (333 MHz), or 200 (400 MHz)double pumped bus, which would explain Jimmy's

i have seen single pumped durons in a dell at my school

Did I ever mention Duron's once? I only mentioned P4's and Athlon XP's. Also, no Dell ever made has a Duron processor.

Thanks for all of your responses I just wanted to be sure I had everything running at full speed.

The Duron's utilized a 100MHz dual pumped FSB equating to a hypothetical 200MHz data rate.
All K7 core microprocessors use the DEC Alpha's EV6 bus protocol, varying in clock rate from 100MHz up to 200MHz.

Dell has never used an AMD processor, so there aren't any Duron Dells, probably Celerons
