I am planning to buy a notebook with either P4 2.2 or P4-M 1.6.

Which one would be better?

The 2.2Ghz Pentium 4 is not for the notebook but for desktop. The current speed the P4-M's max out is at 1.7Ghz, get the 1.6Ghz its the better deal at this time 😀

I think a couple notebook companies are putting desktop motherboards in their notebooks. Thus, they are able to use a 2.2GHz P4. The 2.2GHz would obviously perform better, but I think the P4-M 1.6GHz would be a much better option. The mobile CPUs have some extra instructions in them to help conserve battery life. Trust me, it may not concern you now, but battery life is a very very important decision when buying a notebook. I would pair that with a Radeon Mobility 7500 for a very good gaming performer + good battery life.

yeah the new pentium4-m's have battery conservation features, i was just beat in the race to say it =)

that should be a might fast computer though, im jealous 🙂

Welcome to the forums! 🙂
Before you buy hogwild and buy the fastest of everything consider what usage you will be making of your laptop. If you have a separate desktop machine, you may want to consider a thin and light notebook. They may be a little slower and a little smaller but they are damn sweet.

I agree with the others though, the P4-M or the P3-Ms are preferable over their desktop counterparts when picking a notebook.

Thanks to all for the replies!

This note will always be plugged into a power outlet (I will be using it at Work and Home) 90% of the time. Also I am getting a Car adapter.

thought the p4 2.2 notebooks would be faster with equivalent parts (such as the winbooks). the p4-m ones are usualyl lighter, last longer on batteries, and built to higher specs (since more likely business fleets will use these). so i'd still get the p4-m one.
