this could start a heated debate, but lets keep it civil. im not going to make a long post..its a simple answer. the p4 is a nice chip and its fast, same thing with the tbird! id say whichever you want to buy would be a good solution...for me it would be the tbird simply because of cost!

Best for games in general, the Tbird.
Best for Quake3Arena, The Pentium 4.

Best value, TBird. (Invest the money you saved in a FAST video card, more RAM or a RAID setup etc.)

Sorry, I don't understand what you're saying? Are you saying that P4 is better in games, or the AMD is better?

Hmm... maybe it's just me, but I don't see which one you're saying is better... :)

Is there any other game than Quake3 where P4 shines ? I remember when K6-2 came out, it also beat the crap out of the P2 in Quake2 using V2 videocard thanks to 3DNow, but failed to show off anywhere else..

Don't reckon so: I remember reading something about the P4 architecture being slightly different than other processors on the market, in that it's handling of error-interrups was poor - many games use error interrupts to trigger events because, ironically, they were faster on older processors.
