Pentium 3 to Pentium 4 upgrade Advice

I am thinking of upgrading my P3 850mhz system to a P4 2.4ghz but need advice if I can do it with my current case etc. The case is an Inwin Q500A 350W PS. I know that I will need at least the following; 1. New motherboard, 2. New Ram and 3. A new Intel P4 2.4ghz processor. Is there anything else that I might need to change and can I get some suggestions as to what motherboard is a good performer (no overclocking) at a reasonable price. Thanks.

While your @ it... might as well get a better video card and SATA HD... It will give that upgrade more of a punch

Forgot... a good performer motherboard that does not cost much would be an Abit BH7 or Albatron PX845PEV Pro.
Give which ever one a stick of fast memory that runs 2-2-2-5 if you can find it in PC2700 flavour.

You have it down pretty well. New mobo, CPU/HS/F, and Ram. Everything else should be fine. Get the 533 MHz 2.4B, not the 400 MHz 2.4A. There are a ton of nice mobos to choose from. Its really hard to make a recommendation without more info. What is the price range? What extras, if any do you want on it? There are single channel and dual channel DDR memory boards. They are both good. The DC DDR boards are a little faster. The DC DDR are boards are new and the lower cost ones are not yet readily available.

That is why I did not mention any of the DC DDR boards. Even the lowest one is priced too high for the increased performance it gives.

If your power supply doesn't have the ATX 12v connector for P4's, then you also need a new one.

Or get an Asus board with the EZ Plug. You can also get an adapter for ~ $5.

You will also need an ATX to ATX12V cable in order to power the P4. One can be found at:

There are also several sites selling similar cables for a couple of bucks cheaper.
