Hi I recently did some tweaking now I got my Pentium 3 700e coppermine

running at 933mhz.. i have the core voltage at 1.85 and the I/O voltage

at 3.7(default 3.5) it is very stable and when idling runs about 37degrees

A long hard session of Quake 3 puts the temp as high as 49 C... Is this

a danger zone? It drops down quickly after exiting a 3d app....It

seems pretty stable although last night i did get 1 protection error

after a buttload o gaming....I have a generic dual fan slot 1 heat sink

(i know i'm a bad boy).. but i did take off the gayed thermal tape and

applied thermal grease.. I'm checking my cpu temp with a directly

applied thermistor just off core so I know its accurate/. Any input??

Is the thermistor actually touching the core... Also, core-position(which edge) changes teh reading a lot too...

What motherboard are you using, cause you may be able to read internal diode temps, which are much better than any external reading....

Its a Abit Be62... I'm using a thermister set just off the core.. if i set in on the core it would impede contact with heat sink.... there is a specific temp labelled "cpu temp" on bios but i dont think its accurate.. not sure where it senses temp..my thermistor is under system temp 2..

hmm... is it an early bE6-2 or a later model?

What windows based program are you using to read temps?

late model be62 with the high point controller (which i dont use)

I use Abit's Hardware Doctor in windows which basically just reads the bios

temp...if i reboot and check bios temps are identical...is 49 C just during

3d gaming too hot??

My answer would be no I have had mine P3 running @ 52C 24/7 many weeks now cracking rc5
I know when I for about a year ago I messed up the whole CPU whit greese but I don't care about it. Hell it's a P3 it can handle much more heat.

My P3's run between 40c to 50c depending on the weather. I have big fans pulling lots of air into the case so that pretty much effects the temp all the way around.
I run seti for Team Anandtech 24/7 on all my machines and when running seti and doing work on a machine on a hot day I have seen the temp go up to 52C using MBM5.
W2K simply does a reboot if it gets too hot anyway, so I guess it's pretty safe ;)

is there any way to disable that feature? my dually always reboots once it hits 104F/40C. bugs the heck out of me. that's why i'm replacing my sunon 22cfm with a pair of delta 38cfm.

1.85v seems a little high for a 700 to reach 933. Have you tried to back off the voltage a little? My 650 only takes 1.8 to reach 910. When I get close to 49C, it starts getting a little flaky.

Some P3's will do 933 at stock 1.65V and others take a bit more juice.
I doubt I have to worry about the lifetime of a processor with them getting so much faster every year. By the time my P3's crap out I will be either using or wanting something at least twice as powerful.
