i don't like overclocking the system, only the CPU.
i did a 1.6A to 2.125 by running fsb at 533 instad of 400
what do you think about doing the same to the 2.0A, 2.2A, 2.4A.
2.4A to 3.12 seems unreachable with air cooling right?

The A versions aren't that good for overclocking because of such a high multiplyer. The new "C" revisions which are 800MHZ FSB and HT are so far kick @ss for overclocking. 3.8ghz on air, woot!

does that have anything to do with what i'm asking? is the CPU multiplier unlocked on
that CPU? you had to multiply the fsb right. didn't i say i wasn't interested
in multiplying the fsb past spec. that's what i thought.

Multipliers are not unlocked on Intel CPU's and 3.12 is reachable with air on Northwoods. Did that help? Was that your question? Good, that's what I thought.

The lower A versions are great for overclocking - 1.6A->2.4 on stock voltage and air as we speak. The 2.4->3.12 seems to be a a bit of a stretch, though.

amoralist, what motherboard do you have? Many 845-series boards will let you keep the PCI/AGP locked at the proper values so that you'll only be overclocking your CPU and RAM. It's now easy to buy good, fast RAM so don't let high FSB scare you away.
