Pentium 2 350mhz. Is it overclockable?

Hi,
I am a would-be overclocker who has hit a major problem. I have a second-generation Pentium 2 350mhz that is running @ 100mhz fsb, and is multiplier locked.

I have tried to use Softfsb to raise the fsb of my motherboard to either 103/112/133mhz, but I can't find the correct plugin for my motherboard, and I'm not sure if my motherboard supports those fsb's (it's a Gigabyte GA 686-BX). I have also tried changing the Dip Switches to allow a different multiplier, but my CPU is mulitplier locked.

The lock on my CPU apparently wasn't implemeted properly, allowing the CPU to recognise higher multipliers at a lower fsb, but when i set the fsb to 66mhz, the CPU defaulted to 233mhz with multipliers of 5, 5.5, and 6!

What is going on? Is it possible to overclock this CPU? Am I crazy?

Can you guys give me any ideas for overclocking my system? It is as follows:

Pentium 2 350mhz (100fsb)
Gigabyte GA 686-BX
Matrox Millenium G200
3dfx Voodoo 2
2 x 128mb SDram (I think it's SD)
Quantum Fireball 7.6 el
Windows 98se

I know it's dated and old, but I'm determined and stubborn. Please help.

I used to have a GA 686LX, the 66Mhz version of that board and it had absolutly NO O/C possibility what so ever...

I think it's time to bite the bullet and upgrade to a new platform.

I have thought many-a-time about bitting the bullet, but I am a student trying to skimp-and-save.

If hardware clocking is possible, how about software? I have already used WCPUL2 to lower the latency of my L2 cache, and how tweaked my Voodoo2 to run @ up to 150mhz (instead of 90, but prefer to leave it @ 120mhz!), and my Matrox Millenium G200 runs @ 110% of normal speed, but this is it so far.

any suggestions?

Sorry,
It should read:

My only suggestion is to find the clock gen on the Mobo, it's about 12mm x 5mm and will be made by a number of companies that you will see in SoftFSB. Co's like ICS, winbond, etc, but remember that winbond also make I/O IC's also, but this is bigger than the dimensions I gave you for the clock gen.

Good luck, and if this don't work you have hit the wall.

I have tried to find the clock gen, but i am unsure if my mobo can support 103/112/133mhz fsb's. It's a Gigabyte GA 686-BX, don't suppoise you would happen to know. I have searched google and various places (and my mobo book) but with no luck.

thanks

That's locked to me. 3.5 x 66 = 233 (instead of your default 3 x 100 = 350MHz). Since the multiplier is implemented on the processor and cannot be changed, then it will ignore your 5, 5.5 amnd 6 settings and remain at 3.5.

Are you saying that if you set the FSB to 75, it would work with a 4.0x multiplier?
