Pentium 133 Boot Problems

I recently purchased a Gateway 2000 p5-133 (that is a 133 Mhz computer with 64MB RAM) from our local college. I have tried to install windows 98 on it. It installs OK, but when it tries to boot into the actual desktop it freezes. No idea why, so I tried an old compac quick restore CD. Same problem with that one. I have installed windows 98 on several machines and it worked fine before. Any thoughts or ideas. This is really puzzling to me.

Did you fdisk and format the HDD first to be sure it's clean?

You might want to try installing from the hard drive instead of the cd drive, sometimes files are corrupted. After formatting the C: drive with 'format /s', copy the Win9x folder from the CD to the HDD, reboot to the C: drive and run setup.

I did a format, and tried and fdisk (I typed in fdisk c: ) and it said that the c: was a bad parameter. But I did do a format c: and that worked. So then I did the install. I'll give your other suggestion a shot. Thanks.

OK, so I tried to install again. Once again having the same problem. How in the world do I copy the windows 98 CD over to the hard drive in dos mode. I'm not sure of the command to copy the whole disk. Thanks
