Pentax SLR question

So, I'm probably getting my mom a Pentax K100D digital SLR for Christmas. She has an old Pentax film SLR from the late 80s, I think. Will her lenses fit on the new digital? The Pentax site says that all lenses will fit, but some will need an "adaptor for screw mount and 645/67 lenses."

What do I look for on the lenses/camera to tell if she'll need that adapter?

The only model designation I can find on the camera says "Super Program."
Thanks!

LtPage1, I had a Pentax Spotmatic back in the mid 70's and their lenes were the screw mount type. The series of Pentax SLR's that came out in the late 70's - early 80's were the'K' series, which was a bayonet mount. I don't think you should have any problem with using her lenses on a new body.

You could always sneak one of her lenses when she's not around and take it to a camera shop to double check, better do it soon, Christmas is less than 2 weeks away.

They will probably fit OK, but it is possible that the new digital SLR's automatic features will not work with the older lenses, because chances are, they did not have them.

(Specifically, I was talking about autofocus and auto f/stop exposure. The latter is present on today's digital SLRs.)

Except for auto focus, i don't know what other auto features they could have, back in the late 80's, auto focus was much more expensive than current day prices (proportioately) and so the chances are his Mom had manual focus lenses and will only work in that mode on the Digital SLR.

OP, like i said in my earlier reply, just get your hands on one of her lenses (or lens) and take it to a Photo Shop, they'll be able to tell in a minute.

if your mom's film camera is from late 80's then it probably uses Pentax K mount lenses. It should work with the K100D just fine.

It would fit but you proabbly need to use aperture priority or something. Plus evaluative metering will probably not work and the camera will revert to center weighted metering. But don't quote me on it.
