My brother is looking at buying the Optio 550. He doesn't want SLR qualities, He was a solid, high MP point and shoot. He might get into some shutter/aperture priority tweaking, but that's probably it. Anyone have any opinion on the camera?

Also the cam can handle both SD and MMC cards. I don't know too much about either of these, anyone know much about them? Is one much better than the other?

Thanks for the link Rossman, He and I both checked it out already.

He and I have been all over dpreview, steves-digicam, dcresource, and a couple of other sites, not too much info on Pentax as a digicam manufacturer, seem to have good film cameras though. Question is mainly about the SD and MMC cards, not sure which direction to go in.

I would go with SD (cheaper/easier to find) but they both suck compared to CF/SM.

I have brand new 256MB SD, if you're interested.

afternoon bump

Thsi camera is too small to take CF cards. The specs on it say a CF card is about half as long as the camera is.

SM is essentially dead. No one is developing anything higher than 128. Fuji and Olympus were the 2 biggest supporters, and they have both gone to xD cards.

CF is cheap and widely used. I guess we'll see how xD does against SD and CF. SD from what I was reading was intended as the followup to CF.

I have a Pentax Optio S. I like it :)

Very small, portable, and user friendly.

Picture quality is nowhere near as good as my Canon S100 though. :( But it's only been indoors.. I'll check on outdoor pics this weekend.

I really, really, want to save up for a Canon D10. :)
