really wish I could try out one for myself locally. $1300 just seems a bit too high. I know size and build are top notch, but I need real-time use of it to see if it's really worth it to me. So Pentax, how about sending one this way ;)

But in all seriousness, why didn't they do comparison shots w/ the 50D and D300 (or at least D90)? why did they pick the one step up from entry level cameras?

The 50D and D300 are no longer the latest and greatest in terms of sensors.

according to that review though the K7 is noisier at high ISO than the K20D so maybe it's not the greatest either ...?

forgive me if I overlooked it but I don't see a mention of their image testing methodology i.e. are these out of the camera jpegs or post-processed RAWs? The variables involved in that can potentially make a huge difference e.g. Sony's jpeg engine is crap at high ISOs whereas Oly seem to have a very good one in their latest bodies.

It's more than just the sensor though. Granted, I could probably go find my own samples, but I'm lazy =) Actually, I just noticed their "Comparometer"... dumb me. Liking the output for the most part. D300 still wins I feel, purely on IQ. But form factor and pancake lenses are my big draw to Pentax. It's just the rest of the lenses I can't match for the cost on canon, heh.

go to the exposure section, and there is the RAW section you can compare. They pit it against the 50D and D300 here too, heh.. missed it myself.

Biggest disappointment I'm finding is the comment on low light AF still being a problem. I was really hoping the addition of that AF lamp would give a big boost to that.
