Pentax K20D, K200D and Nikon D60 info

I was an avid Anandtechie before going on into photography. That was 5 years ago.
When I saw your name at DPR, I hopped back over here.

D60 looks too much like a D80. =

D60 is what the now-defunct D40x was. Nikon made a mistake by simply adding an "x" and expecting consumers to see the added value.

D40 will be their entry level; D60 will take up the D40x spot in the line-up. D80 will remain where it is for now; the D90 will start just above it in the price-ladder, competing directly with the Canon 40D.

EDIT: & I imagine Nikon will actually let you turn off NR, and give you ISO 100, which I use all the time.
 
Is it just me, or did the site take down the information on these cameras? The links are just getting me a virtually empty spec sheet.

I would prefer to get the F-mount, as I already have 7 lenses for it. 😉
The A700 applies rather agressive in-camera noise reduction, but other than that is a fine camera. I just have $2k in lenses and accessories for the F-mount.

I wouldn't mind getting a little improved noise reduction (ie, usable ISO1600-3200), too.

It's interesting in that we are now in/approaching an era where we are really quibbling over miniscule differences in performance & as much about minor differences in approach.
E.g. a pro that I know & who has used both the A700 & D300 extensively (& it's nice to see that there do appear to be quite a few pros starting to use the A700) says that the Nikon's output looks better for pixel-peeping but that the Sony actually prints better.

It's worth reading at least the conclusions in http://www.luminous-landscape....meras/Olympus-E3.shtml for imo a level headed view of the current market.

btw at least some of the reported issues with the A700 output actually aren't the camera's fault but the way that the processing software handles it - ACR does a terrible job (as it did for the Olympus E-3 until they issued a patch) whereas Bibble is a lot better.
