Is theis correct?

In a non-OC'ed Penryn system running the CPU at stock 1333mhz...to keep the ratio at 1:1 with the DDRAM....you simply need DDR2 667 running at stock speed.

Thanks for any confirmation.

I'm planning on getting a P35 baord and some ram this week, and I'm not seeing any need to go with DDR2 800, as I will not OC.

Thanks!

Correct, a cpu with a 333 Mhz FSB, which in Intel terms is a 1333 Mhz FSB, needs PC5300/DDR 667 RAM, if not overclocking.

of course, DDR2-800 or higher would give you some nice overclocking headroom where you can keep that 1:1 FSB:DRAM ratio ;)
(and at DDR2 prices these days, it's not much of a stretch at all...)

no kidding, i watch the prices drop on a daily basis.

im having a similar problem choosing DDR2 although from a different direction...maybe i should make a poll and ask: given prices are almost identical, which make would you choose for your PC2-6400?

(these are the makes available where i live for similar prices. 1GB modules, strictly regular CL5, no XMSGTSWTFBBQ edition, around 65$ a pop before tax)

Twinmos
Kreton
Kingston
G.Skill
Aeneon (sp?)
LD
Team (slightly more expensive)

Looking at it strickly from a performance perspective. Forget the cost.

DDR3 running @ DDR3 1333 with a ratio of 2:1 overclocked to say DDR3 1600 we should see more than just a little improvement in speeads of the cpu.

I found the NDA lift today on the P35 chipset a little strange . No actually very strange.

Few if any overclocking reviews of this chipset and the same applies to DDR3 memory noone is overclocking it. Been awhile since I have seen this type of thing occur.

Either DDR3 doesn't overclock very well right now. Or the review sites somehow don't want to publish the results. Or the P35 chipset doesn't overclock very well. . All I do know is the fact that the sites aren't overclocking the P35 chipset or DDR3 is very strange .

If you're in the US check out G.Skill 2GB HZ DDR2-800 (PC2-6400) for $120 (2GB Kit cas 4-4-4-12). This is the HZ series, the good stuff.

People are seeing boards do up to 600Mhz FSB depending on cooling and voltages etc. (extreme stuff to say the least). It's not the boards, it's the DDR3 that doesn't clock well ATM and is expensive to boot.
