Penryn - Drop-in Replacement for First-Gen Mac Pro?

Does anyone know if the new Penryn X54XX processors (the ones with 1333MHz FSB) are a direct drop-in Replacement for First-Gen Mac Pro? I think they're both socket 771s, aren't they?

I don't think that the chipset will support them without new firmware.
