Saw a display at W-Mart, 5 quart jugs of PP with an offer for a $15 WM gift card by mail-in. Max 2 per household. Great oil for $1 per Qt. Note: there was a special display at my WM, the stuff stocked on the oil shelf didn't have the tags on it.

Hot. This stuff is about as good as any tier 3 synthetic out there (Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, etc.)

Will this work in an engine that has been using non synthetic oil for like 100K Miles? Will it do anything better than normal stuff?

Please do some research yourself on the net since this is a complicated subject... Yes, you can use it. Just lubricate better and extend the time between oil changes.

You can switch to and from synthetic oil at any time.

Common side effect of switching to syn after lots of mileage: Synthetic oils clean your engine. You may have some gaskets, seals, or other fittings that have small gaps or cracks in them that have been plugged by Dino oil sludge which is keeping them from leaking. When you switch to synthetic, it may well clean out this sludge after a change or two and you will develop leaks in these areas. This is not the fault of the oil - it'e helping your engine by cleaning it, and it's better you find out about these little faults this way than when a seal or gasket goes catastrophically.

Nutshell: On high mileage switches to synthetic, be prepared to change a seal or two.

Frankly, this is why everyone should be running synthetic from day one these days.

this is normally the lease expensive brand name synthetic on the market. it's often even cheaper than wal-mart's house brand "super tech"

I've used Platinum in my SVT Focus since February (money is tight; can't afford royal purple anymore) and I've only changed my oil twice (about 7,000 miles between changes, I drive from Chicago to San Diego TWICE so that racked up quite a few in a short period.) the oil temperatures and pressure (guages my car has) have always read consistently. however, a common complaint about this oil, especially for high compression vehicles like the Focus SVT and Corolla XRS, both cars I have experience changing to this oil with, is rough start/idle until warmup. the oil is noticably thicker at room temperature at the same viscosity rating in comparison to other oils. the only time this is a concern (in my opinion) is when you live in colder climates where initial starting is already hard on the engine.

however, lab tests and thousands of user feedback about this oil on bobtheoilguy.com and various other forums on the internet have shown this oil to cause no unusual wear over a long period, so the rough start/idle behavior is somewhat irrelevent.

one theory (which i happen to agree with) is the oil forms a thicker protective layer than other oils when cool so it can protect the cylinder walls/sleeves and rings better during cranking.

another theory is the oil remains thicker when cool in order to not drain past the top piston ring when an engine sits for an extended period of time.

to each his own. just can't beat the value, thats for sure.

Huh?

There should be no oil above the top piston ring, unless it or the valves/seals have failed, correct?

So Cal does not seem to have this deal. Both of my nearby Walmart just totally redone their stores. Nothing on the end cap nor at the shelf regarding this deal. I need some oil too.

They have this at the Tucson AZ store on Wetmore. Just too bad you can only get two per address. $1 per quart is worth stocking up on for any oil, let alone full synthetic

Full "Synthetic".

Remember, we're talking about group III basestock here, just like Mobil 1, Castrol Syntec, and other fake/partial synthetics.

That said, it's still an excellent product, and it's searing hot at that price.

Thought I had missed out on this deal, but went to Walmart today and the display still had a good number of jugs with coupons left. Thanks OP!

Oh nice. With that link looks like the deal is extended to Nov. 30.

That link is for a totally different rebate. The Walmart allows 2X5QT with visa gift cards. While that link I gave only allow one 5QT but a rebate check.
Thanks,

Does this stuff come in 0w-40? The only 0w-40 oil I can find in my area is Mobil 1 and never at Wal-Mart.
