From the site:

For the past three years, gamers and geeks around the world have raised nearly a million dollars in toys, games and cash for sick kids in Children's Hospitals across the globe through a grassroots charity called Child's Play.

Created by Penny Arcade, no "Administrative Fees" or other nonsense is collected; all gifts and donations go directly to the hospitals for distribution to sick kids.

This year Child's Play is expanding worldwide to help Children's Hospitals across the globe. Below is a list of Children's Hospitals that need your help. Selecting one will direct you to that particular hospitals Amazon wish list. Any items you purchase from that list will be delivered directly to the hospital you select.

A little more info from one of the guy's of Penny-Arcade know as "Gabe".

At the most basic level Child?s Play is a way for gamers to help sick kids in Children?s Hospitals. These hospitals obviously receive plenty of donations year round but what we learned is that the money they get for the most part is spent on things much more important than toys. Things like medicine and equipment are a bigger priority than say Crash Bandicoot.

These Kids need toys though. They need games to play and crafts to make in order to take their minds off their situations. Something as simple as a Game Boy can make the stay in one of these Hospitals much more bearable for a kid. That my friends, is where we come in. Penny Arcade has teamed up with Amazon to create wish lists for Children?s hospitals all over the world this year. Each list is full of age appropriate games and toys. You simply select a hospital from the map and choose a gift. Easy as pie.

These toys are used in a number of different ways. First they get distributed to kids in the hospitals during the holidays. They are also given out to the brothers and sisters of these kids who often times end up spending all their time at the Hospitals as well. Many of the toys will go to re-stock the play rooms and activity centers in the Hospitals. Finally some of the toys will be stored and then given to kids throughout the year as they come out of surgery.

People like Jack Thompson are welcome to scream at the top of their lungs about the gamer menace. They can go on television and lie about our hobby until they?re blue in the face. In the meantime, we as gamers will come together and quietly change the lives of hundreds of thousands of sick children all over the world for the better.

So if you have some money laying around that you don't know what to do with; put it to some good use and make a kids life a little less sucky.

*bump*

This is an awesome idea that hits particularly close to home in my case... I've been in my fair share of hospitals, and I spent 6 weeks on and off at Seattle Children's when I was six. No child should have to go through what a lot of these kids do, and anything that helps them through is well worth it IMO. Hats off to the Penny Arcade guys for starting something like this! :)

It sounds like a great thing. I was able to select a specific hospital in my state to send a gift to.

I donated a GameBoy Advance SP last year. I might donate again this year. This is a great cause, and it's easy to give something no matter what your budget is.

Exactly, they don't just have high-ticket tech items, but even cheap stuff like play-doh, crayons, and books. Evening giving up a pizza for one night is enough to give something.:)

lol I read this expecting to see China and India and sh!t, pretty funny that it was just the US/Canada and England 'coming soon'. Still pretty cool though, one of those hospitals is pretty close to me. I might even get to play with my own donation if I ever get sic.

Nicely done, I would donate if I weren't so poor (although I didn't read how long it's running for, so I can probably save up and buy something nice)
