Penn and Teller:BS!

Just got Showtime-HD. This has become my favorite show in quite a while.

Better than all the network investigative news shows put together. Too bad so many people won't see it.

Just like I said- They debunk much of what passes as "true" in popular culture. The show I just saw they debunk alot of the BS involved with the "Self Help" crowd like Tony Robins.

Another episode they debunked the idea that there was "scientific evidence" that second hand smoke was harmfull to your health.

There was also one where they go after the "Survival" camp nonsense.

Good stuff.

Hey, I just got that today! Dont have HDTV yet though because the cable guy broke off one of the connectors on the back of the set 😛

Didnt get steamed about it though. I think it was defective from way back and the set was under warranty. Poor cable guy thought I was gonna beat the crap outta him. He was relieved when I pretty much laughed it off. Should have everything up and running for HD come a week from tomorrow.

I always thought it was common sense that second hand smoke is harmful. How did they debunked it?

There's no "scientific evidence". That's not to say that it can be harmfull, it just hasn't been proven. All these folks who go around saying it is, quote a study (there was only one) that was rejected by the FDA as being "unscientific".

Episode on now where they go after the Creationists.

No valid, peer reviewed and repeatable study has shown environmental tobacco smoke to be harmful to people with no pre-existing conditions. The list of studies used by the EPA in the one report claiming a connection were proven to be biased, and picked and choosen from a majority of studies that could find no evidence of any harm. The EPA report was thrown out of federal court for this reason.

Penn explains that he hates the smell of smoke, and would love to live in a smoke free world. However, to pull out snake oil and use it to limit the rights of private property owners is "BS."

Ah- thanks. You remembered it better than I did. Thought it was the FDA for some reason. Oh well...

When you're a kid and being around a heavy smoker makes you sick, it doesn't much matter whether or not people agree that second-hand smoke is bad or not..

Sick how? Is it causing you cancer?

It's not a matter of "agreeing" or not. It has to do with scientific evidence. There is none.

Yes, going after Creationists isn't excactly original (in fact the hour long PBS Evolution episode does a much better job of it), but Penn and Tell take a really hard look at things- much harder than you'ld ever get on network TV.
