I just joined penfed, $20 to be a part of and fund the account. They have a Liberty Mutual auto insurance section where I can save money, I wanted to check a quote and now I save $40 on auto insurance so really my account to penfed was really free!@!

I was with Allstate for years. Switched to Liberty Mutual back in February. Couldn't be happier. Didn't do it through PenFed (whatever that is), though.

My favorite benefit of being a Pentagon Federal Credit Union member is when I go buy a car and the sales guy starts talking about financing I tell him "no thanks, I have my own financing." They always respond "what rate did you get?" to which I respond with the incredible auto loan rate.

"Who are you financing with?" they ask.

"Pentagon Federal Credit Union," I say.

"Do you work for the government?"

"If I told you, I'd have to kill you."

How incredible is the rate?

It was 1.74% for 60 months at the end of July. Up to 2.24% now. If you use their car buying service to buy from a dealer in their network you could get as low as 0.49%.

Not bad. When I bought my Altima, first time ever buying a car, I was getting rejected left and right by all the banks due to lack of credit until I just financed through Nissan themselves at 0.9%.

I had Gieco for 2 years paying 69.70 for 2 cars liability only. I joined PenFed and joined Liberty under penfed and am only paying 42.xx a month.

Since I can save $XXX by switching to Geico, $XXX by switching to AllState, $XXX by switching to Esurance, and so on, I'm just going to change insurance companies about 6 or 7 times until eventually they owe me money for having a policy.

I just switched over to Liberty Mutual and saving me about $150/yr from my previous noname insurer. LM gave me additional 8% off for being an university alumni. Geico was even $180/yr cheaper than LM, but they have this weird 6months premium thingy, not sure if they would raise it after the first 6 months, kinda like a teaser rate, so I didn't go with them.

Car rates don't matter. A few percentage points is like $100 on the life of the loan.

Yup Honda matched that rate for me on my Accord. As far as insurance, I do the whole Geico-Navy Federal bit and have auto and home insurance (actually Travelers) through them for max savings (haven't really checked).

Penfed customer service is usually really slow and they have very few branches. I prefer NFCUs service..very quick, phone or online

doubtful

and if you spoke to the finance guy you lost.

State Farm bank beat PenFed (I am a member there) with nearly the same rate + GAP included.

I drive a ton. My mileage tends to beat my financing. At the end of the loan I still profit. though...I don't wreck much.
