Pencil vs Loctite observation

I put my system together a month ago. Cpu was from overclockerz store, unlocked and tested by them with them guaranteeing 1Ghz. I didn't know any better than to buy from them. I was never able to get the system to run stable at over 850 Mhz. I figured I would never get anywhere with overclockerz, so I decided to try the Locktite mostly out of desperation.

Yesterday I went out and bought the Loctite product. Used a plastic eraser(much better than a pink eraser)to remove the pencil marks, cleaned with Goof Off and carefully applied the Loctite with a twist tie (Rudee - thanks for the twist tie tip). Let it dry overnite.

Now my system is stable at 1.1Ghz. Has anyone else had a similiar experience. I'm wondering if the Loctite is that much better that the pencil.

My temps are 32C idle and 46C under load. I have the Taisol CEK734092 HSF (the larger one) and Artic Silver.

Pencil just isn't that stable. The cpu goes thru quite a lot of thermal stress when it expands and contracts. The Loctite Defogger kit is DESIGNED to handle lots of amps, it has very low electrical resistance. The amount of current passing thru the bridges is quite low but heat and maybe a little stray grease causes the pencil trick to degrade.

Hmmm a 750@1.1, not bad. I'm going to OC mine soon, i'm guessing i might oc it to 1.2 or something close to that. I guess they were right when they said that the 750 T-Birds were the best overclockers.

Peace,
Nore

The pencil also has a higher tendency to degrade in performance over time. Previously I had 808. Now I have it going at 867 stable.

I think that the Loctite stuff does help. Before I had occasional lockup at 950MHz so I back it down to 900MHz. My system went down because because of power outage after having it up 24/7 for a months. It never boot so I know that the graphite wear off. Went to and got some Loctite and now it's at 950MHz rock stable. So I would recommend Loctite stuff over penciling anytime.
