ok i gotta redo my pencil work on my duron (i did a bad job), but ive heard a lot about the graphite degrading over time, so im not sure whether or not i should use pencil......
i mean, how long does it take for the graphite to wear off enough to cause a performance loss????

Some people say that they have no degradation.

Some people get instability after several weeks.

I get instability after 24 hours.

All in all, I think it has a lot to do with the lead that you use as well as how much you apply. Either way, the safest way is to use something more permanent like a defogger repair kit or some conductive goop, conductive pen.

Hi,
I had my pencil on for about 2 months, its still good, no problems, I used 0.5mm lead B, I think, the one, one level softer than HB, the softer you go, the more darker, so try B lead.

I put some pencil on, worked fine. About a week later I had problems getting it to work overclocked at all (and at a LAN party too :(), that night it started working again, later I shut it down for the night, and it stoped working, so I speculated that shutting it down and leaving it off for the car ride had done something, and that leaving it on had done fixed it.

Later that week I redid the pencil, worked for about an hour, then I had more problems when I rebooted. I could tell it was the pencil because when I put the voltage on default, it would change around every time I went into the BIOS (betwene 1.6 default and 1.7 with the pencil).

Right now I've got silver ink on and everything is working fine.
