Peltier question: is it hard to set one up?

I've got an Athlon 550 that doesn't run hot or anything, I just want something to do. The temp hovers around 95-100 degrees. I'd like to change that if I can. So, is it easier to set up a peltier cooling system or water cooling? I've seen peltiers that are pretty cheap. How does one go about installing one? If you have a link with a how to about it, please post it. Thanks.

Peltiers,

They do not work alone:) This seems to be a common misconception among PC enthusiasts. One side gets very cold and the other side gets very hot. The hot side needs extreme cooling to be of use.

the peltier itself..
a good HS/fan..
what else do you need??
does a peltier kit come with everything i would need??

thanks in advance

I'm also thinking of taking the jump to peltier's. There's a couple of articles at:

http://www.octools.com/

I've read you should run the peltier on a dedicated line on your PS with good case ventilation. Anyone know if a 300w PS will do the job? I'm running the following hardware:

3 - 80cm intake fans
1 - 80cm exhaust fan
1 - 60cm exhaust fan
1 - CDROM
1 - CD RW
1 - 20g 7200 HD
1 - alpha pal35t

Thanks in advance.

mechwarrior, I have about what you have in my case, I am running one of the 50w peltier kits on mine. p650 at 950 I have 300 watt ps and my chip runs just around 0 celcius at idle and about 17 degress celcius at full load. Just make sure you insulate, with silicone and cell foam and get a 50w tom L. kit, with 50 watt don't have to worry as much with condensation. If you have good 300 watt ps you should be fine, mine's an antec.

NormeyJ,
Thanks for your input. I also have an Antec 300PS.
By the way, what voltage are you running your P3650@950?

I have a Celeron 566@935 1.85v. On an ASUS P3V4X, it's about 38C@idle. I've even gotten it to 952@1.90v and ran Sisandra, but it doesn't make it all the way through 3dMark 2000. So I'd like to see if a little more cooling will help.

Peltiers require care and effort to set up right. Personally, I think water cooling is a must. Pelts pump out mucho heat, so if you use air cooling you need a whopping heatsink fan and must have the means to evacuate all the hot air from your case. That is going to be loud.

Mechwarrior: My 566 wouldn't run stable over 900 with the retail heatsink even at 1.85 volts. With my watercooled pelt, my diode temp is 0 degrees centigrade at 952 and 1.73 volts and it is stable. I haven't found the stable upper limit yet, but I can boot windows and run sandra bench at 1007. So you can probably expect another 80 mhz by going to a pelt.
