Peltier cooling

hey guys i recently saw this peltier unit for only 35$ and i was wondering if there were n e suggestions on how to hook it up to my cpu if i do get it?
 
Peltiers generally need to be coupled with water cooling or really extreme air cooling to make a difference. With that said, if you are just running a standard air cooler, you may see a raise in temperature as you would have to dissapitate the heat of your CPU plus the heat the peltier cooler generates (another 80W if it is an 80W unit, etc). Peltiers normally just plug into the 12V and ground of your PSU, but if you dont have a hefty PSU, another 80W or whatever could easily overload it. If you want specifics on how to actually attach it to the CPU, I am sure someone else can be more of a help.

i have pretty good air cooling i think...got 2 80 mm in back, one on side, 4 in the front, and a 120 mm blowhol eon top...system temp is around 24C most of the time...my cpu temp is around 35 C and i want to oc it a bit more but i dont want to get it into the 40's...so im looking for an alternative to watercooling sincei dont have the money for that
 
A peltier would most likely just overload your current heatsink and raise all of your temps. I will look for a tutorial that explains peltiers more and post back if I find one. If I am off track here, someone please correct me.

I think you could do a lot better going to a Thermalright SLK-900 and 92mm fan. If you dont mind the noise, throw on a Vantec Tornado, and your temps would prob be in the 20s. For a little less money, and performance, an SLK-800 would also help a bit.

ewll i alredy have an ax-7 with 80mm fan so i dont need a new hsf but i just wanted to know if peltier would be an optio...thanx
 
I have never seen a peltier make much of a difference in an air cooled system. Heck, even most of the water cooling kits I have seen people use are not beefy enough to handle a peltier. Also, unless you hava a 500+ watt Power Supply, you will need a 12v power supply for the peltier, unless you get a little one. Bottom line is, if you don't want water-cooling, don't waste your money, time, and effort on a Peltier.

A peltier can do wonders if the right setup, but I would say 95% of the setups I have seen have not been right for a Peltier. You might be able to get away with using a small Peltier, but with the amount of heat today's CPU's put off, you would see close to no improvement by using a small Peltier.
 
i tried to use a peltier once. what a disaster.

one side gets cold, one side hot. then both sides get hot. real hot, super hot.
gotta have an extremely efficient cooling device (as in water cooling), otherwise they'll generate more heat than the cpu. when they are set up properly, gotta watch for condensation on the cold side.
they were way to much trouble!
