.PEF RAW to highest quality .JPG

I have a K100d and I shoot RAW, but when converting to JPG I seem to loose more quality than I anticipated. What program do you guys use to convert and ensure you keep as much quality as possible? Looking for something free if possible. I have Gimp and FastStone image viewer and I know they do it.

Rawshooter is free and works wonders 🙂 Its parent company was bought by adobe, but you can still find rawshooter on the web. Just google it.

It doesn't support the K100D natively, but a simple hex editor change is all you need as the .PEF files of the K100D are the same as the *ist. Even better, use the RAW converter by adobe (3.6 or similar) to change the .PEF to a .DNG

What is worng with the pentax photo lab 3? It does a decent job.

K100D owner here too 🙂

Photolab works, I guess I was just looking to see if anyone had better results from other programs.

There was a thread on dpreview about this. A guy compared the latest lightroom to ppl, and surprisingly the quality from ppl was better.

the only problem is having to use pentax photolab 😉

and yes, k100d owner as well =)

Good info, not tried RAW yet but plan too soon as I redo the main pc (new large HD and reload XP Pro....) and load Adobe CS Suite, Pentax and other programs.

Brand new K200D!
